Volunteers will clean up garbage from the AZ Game & Fish Dept. parking lot, and then walk upriver to

similar work occurring in the Verde Valley, so TNC hopes to get people from the
Prescott, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, and Paulden areas out to enjoy our

Ride to Work with the Mayor
The route will travel down Gurley to McCormick then pick up the Granite Creek leg of the Greenways trail to Carlton and Cortez St. Helmets required, and can be provided for students through PAT's Safe Routes to Schools program. All ages welcome, but children should be accompanied by an adult. Ride will leave at 7:15 sharp. Prescott Pride Center Community Clean-Up Day
It’s time for the Prescott Pride Center’s annual facelift in preparation
for all our outdoor summer events. As always, there’s plenty of work to
be done to spruce up the place. The list of chores includes painting,
cleaning, raking, planting, weeding, organizing, and more. Why not lend
a hand and give our GLBT community center the TLC it deserves?
Volunteers will be rewarded with free snacks (possibly pizza) and that
warm fuzzy feeling that comes from knowing you helped your community in
a hands-on way.
If you aren’t up to the physical challenges of Clean-Up Day, we could
always use a few donations. We’re in need of some flowers for the front
planting beds, landscape cloth, and medium-size bark mulch. You could

Now here’s a question to ponder...When was the last time you got to
first base? Has it been a while? Well, we can change that sad little
statistic with one trip to Softball Sunday. Who knows? You might even
make it to third! Now if that doesn’t entice you to lace up your
sneakers and get out for some Sunday fun, we don’t know what will. So
stretch any unused muscles you might have and let’s play ball!
Softball Sunday is for fun only and is open to people of all ages,
gender, and skill level, including first-time players. Cheerleaders and
spectators are also welcome. The fine print for players is available on

Daniel McGowan is an environmental activist who was arrested for a number of Earth Liberation Front
arsons that effectively targeted genetic engineering research. He was sentenced to 7 years and 1.9 million
restitution. He is being help in a communication management unit which resrticts his access to phone and visits
from loved ones.
New York native McGowan has worked on many activist issues including military counter-recruitment, demonstrations
against the RNC, the Really Really Free Market, and the support of prisoners such as Jeff Luers and others. McGowan
was a graduate student earning a Master's degree in acupuncture and was an employee of WomensLaw.org, a
nonprofit group that helps women in domestic abuse situations navigate the legal system.

In the 1990's, Alvaro was recognized as the national coordinator of the Ricardo Aldape Guerra Defense
Committee, which lef to the struggle to free Mexican national Aldape Guerra from Texas' death row after being framed by
Houston police. Alvaro did local Houston and national organizing around the case, and was instrumental in winning Adalpe
Guerra's freedom from prison. In March 1993, Alvaro was a non-governmental organization (NGO) delagate before
the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. Before the U.N.
General Assembly, he exposed the U.S. government's dismissal human rights record and its human rights violations
of U.S. political prisoners.
Alvaro also spearheaded the National Movement of LaRaza, Stop the Violence Youth Committee and the Prisoners
Solidarity Committee in Houston.
On July 18, 1996, Sheriff Jack McDaniel of Alpine, Texas attempted to assassinate Alvaro but was thwarted
when Alvaro disarmed him. For this he was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Currently Alvaro has been denied access to
legal materials in the Hughes Unit Law Library. Alvaro has submitted an I-60 Grievance request on December 13th 2009,
and has received no response.

Ed Poindexter and Mondo We Langa (formally David Rice), have been incarcerated on life sentences for the 1971 bombing
death of an Omaha policeman. Both have insisted they never manufactured a bomb, and never instructed a 16 year-old
to make a 911 call to lure police to a trap which would kill one policeman and badly injure another. So much evidence
has come to light since their convictions to collaborate their story that Amnesty International and the Lincoln NAAC have
called for their release, or for a new trail. Mondo We Langa was a known member of the NCCF (National
Committee to Combat Fascism). This group consisted of Black Panther members that were working to protect the
black community from police brutality. David Rice was Minister of Information in the NCCF. Rice's political actions
were a large part of why he was convicted.
