In the FREESKOOL course you learn how to log and capture footage from video cameras, construct a timeline and do some basic editing. My name is Hugh, I am working on a
video project about the Verde River for an Independent Study of mine and I am looking for volunteers who want to learn to edit. No experience necessary, but you should be comfortable working on computers. This is a great chance to get free instruction from myself and Prescott Colleges Video Lab Instructor Dana Oswald. We will already have the footage and all necessary equipment, you just need to show up ready to learn and help out on a local environmental and social justice project.

The Language of the Visual Arts: Learning to Decode the Visual Language with Susan Handler
Visuals surround us in our everyday life but do we understand the visual language and the power that it holds? This workshop introduces the concept of visual inquiry, which is the foundation for developing the decoding skill. Learning the language of the visual arts is based on sharpening ones visual inquiry techniques, visual literacy skills, and decoding symbols. All lead to making visual connections, which results in learning to “read” the visual arts. This critical thinking skill is useful for students of all ages. Learning to decode is very much similar to learning a new language. This hands-on workshop has been presented to learners of all ages. Participants work in teams from color art reproductions, using magnifying glasses to capture the minute details. Reproductions of the paintings will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring magnifying glasses

China’s meteoric rise to economic powerhouse might be charted with dams. Every river in the country has been tapped to power exploding cities and factories-every river but one. Running through one of the richest natural areas in the world, the Nujiang’s raging waters were on the verge of being dammed when a 2004 government moratorium halted construction. Everyone should know how to throw a solid punch when in a tight spot. Come learn how to use effective attacks and blocks, fight from the ground, & use your voice. We'll be learning and perfecting the basics and you'll get to actually use yer new skills on a target and a person with an awkward looking chest pad. Come with some friends and wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in. This class is beginner-friendly, so don't feel intimidated if you don't know the first thing about fighting back. TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
Prescott’s sixth annual Take Back the Night (also known as Reclaim the Night) will be held on April 16th, 2010 at the courthouse square. The event is a chance for community members to gather together to network and dialogue about sexual violence being perpetuated in the Prescott area. The event will include food, live music, speakers and presenters, open dialogue, and finally, a rally and candle-lit march to reclaim the night from the fear of violence in our community. It will be a celebration of those who’ve survived and a brain-storming session for ending the perpetuation of this violence. In the USA 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will be victims of sexual violence and/or assault in their lifetime. This is nothing less than a pandemic. The intention of this event is to bring together our community in order to give voice to those who’ve been silenced and to bring about change. Today, traditional stewardship values have expanded to sustainability values. Sustainability blurs the demarcation between the human community and the natural world. Environmental Education for a Sustainable Future emphasizes the educational continuum that moves learners from awareness to action, resulting in ecological, social, and economic benefits.
Suzanne and Eric Dhruv, Prescott College MAP alums and directors of Prescott College’s Center for Children and Nature and Ironwood Tree Experience work to connect teens with their community through experiences in nature. These experiences enhance teen’s awareness of ecological, social, and economic connections in the urban and rural environments and inspire youth to engage in community action projects.

Fostering environmental awareness and community empowerment toward a sustainable future
Prescott College Kino Bay Center is located in the fishing village Bahia de Kino, Mexico on the shores of the Gulf of California. Since 1998 the Center has been running an Environmental Education Program with the local schools of the community. The mission of the program is to foster ecological awareness through exploration of regional ecosystems, encourage involvement in local conservation issues, while building capacity for young people to become involved in conservation regional efforts. Now is an important time to reach out to the youth, the future of Bahia de Kino, to provide them with the knowledge, motivation, and skills to secure a sustainable ecological and economic future. Beyond a model, the EEP is an example of a multicultural program that is growing in an organic way with the involvement of the community. The long-term commitment of the Kino Bay Center within the community has provided continuity and support for educational opportunities providing as well as the empowerment of a new generation.

Decolonization and Allyship: Showing Solidarity with Indigenous Struggle hosted by the Peace and Justice Center
What does solidarity actually look like? This open workshop is for all folks, with carying levels of activist experience, dedicated to exploring this question. Some topics will include: decolonization as a social movement, allyship, settler mentality, and tools for combatting colonial privelege.
