Grown in Detroit - A film about active citizens and community gardens
Detroit has earned its notorious title as one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. due to a struggling automotive industry, increasingly high unemployment, poverty, race issues, vacant houses, high crime rates and decreased public services. Places where houses, factories and schools were once thriving are left abandoned because only half of the city's original population remains.
In the last fifty years, one of the wealthiest cities in America has transformed into one of the most economically and socially challenged. Where residents once had major supermarkets and affordable, healthy dining, now liquor stores sell groceries from behind bullet-proof glass and fast food restaurants are rampant. However, amidst all this negativity, where the press hangs on every story, the city and its residents have surprisingly emerged with their own solution. With the destruction of so many abandoned homes nature has taken over and the city is ‘greening’ from within.

Canyon Country Community Lecture Series
Preposterous Lake Powell. Presented by Gary Ladd. In 2005 Lake Powell had fallen 145 feet from its full pool level and had lost two-thirds of its pre-drought volume. dramatic recent changes in lake levels, and its history of controversy over the flooding of the freeflowing

Colorado River in Glen Canyon, award-winning

landscape photographer Gary Ladd will present a visual overview of Lake Powell, a place he regards as a

curiously interesting and astonishingly photogenic

Turkey Day Potluck

The Prescott Pride Center is hosting its 11th annual Thanksgiving feast, and you’re invited! Turkey Day is a perfect time to gather together and celebrate all that we have to be thankful for as a community. Everyone is welcome and no RSVPs are required. The Pride Center will provide the basics (turkey, stuffing, non-alcoholic beverages, and dinnerware). All you have to do is bring a side dish to share.

To avoid duplicates or deficits, please call Roger & Steven at (928) 442-2498 or email them at

rogerosgood2005@ yahoo.com to coordinate what

to bring. There will also be a sign-up sheet at the Pride Center so you can add your name to the list while you’re there. Preferred items at this point include mashed potatoes (real, not boxed), cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, that funky green bean casserole, and desserts. There is no requested donation for this event, but the Pride Center will gratefully accept any donation made in the spirit of Thanksgiving. In lieu of a donation, you can also bring a non-perishable food item to contribute to our community food box.

Already have somewhere to go on Turkey Day? No problem! Drop by for second supper, dessert and coffee, or a little bit of holiday social time with the gang. Last-minute decisions to stop in are okay, too. Thanksgiving is a family day and we consider each and every one of you part of our community family. You’ll be warmly welcomed, treated kindly, and stuffed like a turkey by the time you leave.
