Peace & Justice Center Film Showing...In EARTH DAYS, acclaimed director Robert Stone traces the origins of the modern environmental movement through the eyes of nine Americans who propelled the movement from its beginnings in the 1950s to its moment of triumph in 1970 with the original Earth Day, and to its status as a major political force in America.Drawing heavily on eyewitness testimony and a wealth of never before seen archival footage, Stone examines the revolutionary achievements and missed opportunities of a decade of ground- breaking activism. The result is both a poetic meditation on human beings complex relationship with nature and a probing analysis of past responses to environmental crisis.

Learning How to Love: An Evening with Garchen RinpocheGarchen Rinpoche is a Tibetan lama known throughout the world as a teacher of great kindness and vast realization. The Garchen Buddhist Institute in Chino Valley is his heart center, his gift to North America. He is loved by tens of thousands worldwide and he is considered a living buddha. On December 7, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche will be coming to Prescott College for the first time to give teachings on loving-kindness and compassion. To learn more about Garchen Rinpoche or the Garchen Buddhist Institute, go to www.garchen.net.Instead of asking for monetary donations, we are asking everyone to come bearing gifts. Offering a token of gratitude to the teacher, in the Buddhist tradition, is considered one of the most important things we can do in our lifetime, because it establishes a connection between our minds and the mind of the teacher. So appropriate gifts might be a flower, a cookie, a muffin, a stone, a poem, a scarf, a dried leaf... anything small and meaningful is appropriate. To learn more about the December event, email Emily at egwebber@gmail.com, or call her at 717-725-7602.May all being benefit!

Arizona at the Crossroads: Reframing the Dialogue on Culture, Power & Politics in the wake of SB1070 and HB2281With the passage of SB1070 and HB 2281, Arizona has become an epicenter of local, national, and international debate, social justice struggle, and political-economic and cultural change. With the passage of SB1070 and HB2281 everyone’s implicated though many are disproportionately impacted. In this interdisciplinary, undergraduate conference, Prescott College explores the social, cultural and political processes that are vexing Arizona in this moment through a series of keynotes, workshops and presentations. Through research and critical analysis, students will explore and interrogate the changing political landscape of Arizona and the human and environmental impacts that result from these processes. This moment in time reflects ongoing struggles over the determination of identity, access to and production of resources, control over knowledge and the legitimation of dominant social and political systems. Please join us for this interdisciplinary conference on December 11th in the crossroads center.

Geminoids Meteor Shower
Considered by many to be the best meteor shower in the heavens, the Geminids are known for producing up to 60 multicolored meteors per hour at their peak. The peak of the shower this year should occur on the night of December 13 and morning of the 14th, although some meteors should be visible from December 6 - 19. Some estimates say there could be as many as 120 meteors an hour visible from dark-sky locations. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation Gemini. The Moon will set early in the evening setting the sky up for a spectacular show. Best viewing is usually to the east after midnight.
